Charleston County Government Offices to close at 2 pm Friday

Charleston County Government Offices will close at 2 pm on Friday, January 21st due to potential winter weather. Charleston County is under a winter storm watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. According to the National Weather Service, the biggest threat is freezing rain, icing on roads and bridges, and potential power outages.

“Charleston County Emergency Management is working with the National Weather Service, local and state emergency management partners as we continue to closely monitor this storm,” said Emergency Management Director Joe Coates. “Our Public Works crews have sand trucks on standby if needed. We are asking residents to stay off the roads as conditions could be dangerous late Friday and into Saturday morning.” 

Citizen Information Line

The Charleston County Citizens Information Line will be open Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm Residents can call (843) 746-3900, or (843) 746-3909 for Spanish, to get information about the winter storm. Please do not call this line to report a power outage or an emergency. Power outages can be reported directly to power providers. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.

Recycling

Convenience Centers will close at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and will remain closed on Saturday, January 22nd. All sites will resume normal hours on Monday, January 24. Recycling pickup will occur on schedule until 2:00 p.m. Any homes not serviced will be picked up first on their next scheduled service day.

Warming Centers

Aldersgate UMC Warming Shelter, Seacoast West Ashley Warming Center, and Hibben UMC Warming Shelter will be open to the public in the evenings. CARTA will be providing free transportation to individuals who are seeking access to shelters.

Aldersgate UMC Warming Shelter

  • Open Thursday, January 20 – Saturday, January 22
  • 1444 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406
  • Admission hours 7-9 pm
  • Closes at 7 am the next day
  • COVID-19 rapid testing provided for free
  • Face coverings required

Seacoast West Ashley

  • Open Thursday, January 20 – Saturday, January 22
  • 2049 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407
  • Admission hours are 6-9 pm
  • Closes at 7 am the next day
  • COVID-19 rapid testing provided for free and required
  • Face coverings required

Hibben UMC

  • Open Friday, January 21 – Saturday, January 22
  • 690 Coleman Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant 29464
  • Admission hours 7-11 pm
  • Closes at 7 a.m. the next day

Bond Court

Centralized Bond Hearing Court will have only one session of bond hearings at 10 am on Friday, January 21st, 2022.  Bond Hearing Court will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, January 22, 2022.
