Press Release

Due to inclement weather forecast for tomorrow, city of Charleston offices will close at 2 pm on Friday, January 21, 2022.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston, Friday’s forecast calls for rain developing into periods of freezing rain as temperatures drop late in the day, which could result in icy roadways.

City of Charleston Emergency Management Director Shannon Scaff said, “Citizens should avoid driving during icy conditions. If you must drive, use extreme caution, drive slowly and be aware of the potential for black ice to form on the roadways. Extra care should be taken on bridges and over passes, as they’re likely to freeze before the roads.”

City Public Service Department crews have equipment ready to salt icy roads, as needed.

All city parks and recreation facilities, as well as scheduled programs, will close at 2 p.m. tomorrow and are expected to reopen at 12 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022, if conditions allow.

The workshop on the city’s new composting program scheduled for Saturday, January 22 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Frothy Beard’s outdoor patio has been cancelled.

Garbage and trash crews will run their routes as long as conditions allow. If they are unable to finish due to unsafe weather conditions, they will resume collection first thing Monday morning.
