Press Release

Be A Mentor (BAM), a non-profit children’s advocacy organization, today announced its Hometown Heroes Challenge. BAM has partnered with CreatD, a nationwide technology platform built to give creators a voice to enact positive change. BAM and CreatD ask the public to pen an open letter to someone who has positively impacted your life and submit it to CreatD’s portal to participate in the Hometown Heroes Challenge.

The letters will be reviewed and awarded up to $2,500 for the first-place winner with the most inspiring story. The deadline to enter is February 15, 2022.

Be A Mentor will use the partnership to ignite change throughout communities across the nation using their reflections on how Mentorship impacted others’ lives. Participants are encouraged to include videos, pictures, and other keepsakes with their open letters to tell the whole story of how their personal hero has impacted their lives. CreatD has donated $5,000 to the challenge that has already been met with matched donations. BAM Board Chair, Joe Waring and his wife, Silvia Waring, have generously matched CreatD’s giving of $5,000 to make a $10,000 impact on our local community.

“On a human level as much as a professional one, I have a deep appreciation for Be A Mentor and their vision of drawing upon the strength of community to lift at-risk youth,” said Laurie Weisberg, co-CEO of CreatD. “On behalf of the entire CreatD team, we are thrilled to team up with Be A Mentor for this Challenge and support their critical efforts by lending Vocal’s communities, voices, and unique storytelling power.”

The Hometown Heroes Challenge will announce a winner on March 1, 2022. Currently, Be A Mentor serves the community through virtual and in-person mentorships to over 300 children in the Charleston area in 26 schools.
