Katie Arrington Announces Another Run for SC-01 Seat; Will Face Rep. Nancy Mace in GOP Primary
Former South Carolina state representative (2017 to 2019) Katie Arrington (right) today announced that she is once again running for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District seat.
In 2018, she defeated former South Carolina Governor and incumbent Congressman Mark Sanford in the Republican primary for the district seat, but ultimately lost the general election to Democrat Joe Cunningham. Arrington will face off against incumbent Nancy Mace, who defeated Joe Cunningham in November of 2020, in the Republican primary.
After losing to Cunningham, Arrington joined the U.S. Department of Defense in 2019 before being suspended in 2021. She resigned “in protest” and later sued the Department of Defense and National Security Agency over the suspension.
Hours after launching her congressional campaign, Arrington falsely claimed in an interview with The State that Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election. “Yes, I do. I think Trump won the 2020 election,” Arrington told the newspaper. “I think there’s too many voting irregularities.” You can read the interview here.
