Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System hosts Gullah-Geechee Art Walk for Black History Month
The Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System today hosted a Gullah-Geechee art walk cultural exhibit from 9 am until 2 pm. Various Lowcountry artists will have artwork featured throughout the gallery, along with historical books, traditional Gullah-Geechee cuisine, and historical information on the Gullah-Geechee culture.
Danisha McClary, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program Manger at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System, set up multiple events throughout Black History Month to recognize the African American community and their accomplishments, as well as the cultural significance of the Gullah-Geechee community in the Lowcountry.
“Hosting the Gullah-Geechee cultural art walk at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System allows for employees and Veterans to learn about and recognize the African American culture of the Lowcountry,” said McClary. “Here at the VA, we are recognizing the contributions that African Americans have made throughout our countries history, including their military service.”
