The Charleston Place Transitions to Independent Luxury Hotel under New Ownership
The Charleston Place, a well-known hotel in Charleston’s historic district, today announced its official transition from a Belmond property to the locally-owned and managed Beemok Hospitality Group.
Throughout March, The Charleston Place will celebrate this next chapter with a series of activations and programming designed to bring the property’s new ethos and branding to life. Developed in conjunction with local branding agency SDCO Partners, the hotel’s new logo (right) represents what the Beemok Hospitality Group says is “the bud of a giving tree, serving as a source of light, growth, and connection, with branches that grow and embrace the city it calls home.” Using this as inspiration, The Charleston Place has installed a large-scale sculpture of two hands cradling a life-size tree in the center of the grand lobby. All are invited to be a part of the transition by writing their favorite memories from The Charleston Place on paper leaves, which will then be hung on the tree to make it “bloom” throughout the month.
Additionally, The Charleston Place has partnered with floral design studio SYG Designs to transform the lobby and public spaces by bringing the outdoors in, using numerous large plants and greenery to celebrate the “rebirth of the iconic property and signal the start of springtime in Charleston.” Locals and guests alike can join in on the celebration by shopping from the Haegur plant truck in the Market Street Circle from March 4th to 6th, or by partaking in the Abide A While Charleston plant workshop on March 26th. The hotel will also celebrate spring’s arrival by hosting the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Ensemble for a community concert in the Market Street Circle on March 20th.
“We couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey as a truly independent luxury hotel,” said Bob Megargle, Managing Director, The Charleston Place. “The Charleston Place has such a rich history, and we remain deeply committed to our community, guests and team members. We aim to be the city’s living room, a source of light and inspiration for all who enter our doors.”
Long-term, The Charleston Place will undergo a $100+ million transformation that will include redesigns of the lobby, courtyards, guest rooms and suites, spa/wellness center, restaurants and bars, retail, meeting and event spaces, and pool. The property expects to remain open during the renovation, which will be completed in phases with an estimated start in early 2023.
