Charleston Jazz Orchestra Offering Rare Chance to Hear Duke Ellington Hits Performed Live
Charleston Jazz will present “The ‘Suite’ Sounds of Ellington,” at two Lowcountry venues this March. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra will appear on the outdoor Firefly Distillery stage on March 25th at 6 pm, and at the Charleston Music Hall on March 26th at 5 pm and 8 pm.
Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington is one of the most-celebrated American bandleaders of the Jazz Age, and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra says they are pleased to offer audiences the rare opportunity to hear the legend’s greatest works performed live. The orchestra is comprised of award-winning musicians, recording artists and sought-after performers who have not only toured with some of the biggest names in the industry, but also call the Lowcountry their home.
Duke Ellington composed and collaborated on over a thousand musical compositions and many of his works are considered ‘standards’ in the Great American Songbook. The performance selections, “The Far East Suite” and ” The New Orleans Suite,” will captivate audiences of all ages with their technical intricacy and timeless melodies.
