2022 Shriners Children’s Hospital Charleston Classic Field Announced
ESPN Events today announced the eight-team field that will compete in the 2022 Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. Those squads are the College of Charleston, Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, Old Dominion, Penn State, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech. The annual men’s college basketball tournament will be played November 17th, 18th and 20th at TD Arena in Charleston during the 2022-23 season.
Colorado State (24-4) and Davidson (25-5) both finished their 2021-22 regular seasons with 20-plus wins and are projected to make the upcoming NCAA Tournament field according to Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology. Virginia Tech also remains in contention for the NCAAs and will return to Charleston this fall after winning the 2018 Classic.
In all, three Palmetto State teams will compete in the 2022 Classic: College of Charleston, the host school and a Classic participant for the first time since 2016; Furman, which advanced to the SoCon Championship and has won more than 20 games this season; and the always-competitive Gamecocks of the SEC.
Owned and operated by ESPN Events, the Shriners Children’s Hospital Classic is in its 14th year. Past Classic champions include Florida (2019), Villanova (2016), Virginia (2015), and Miami (2014).
The family-friendly event offers teams a week of practice, play and experiences in and around historic Charleston. Information on travel packages, tickets and more is available at the Charleston Classic website. Tickets will be available for purchase following the announcement of the complete tournament schedule later this summer.
