The Charleston Battery announced Tuesday the signing of defender Tristan Weber to the 2022 roster, pending league and federation approval. Weber joins the Battery following a successful spell as a trialist in the 2022 preseason.

Weber made an early and strong first impression at Patriots Point in the 2022 Breeze Airways™ Carolina Challenge Cup. He assisted Aidan Apodaca via an over-the-top pass against Charlotte FC that Apodaca then turned into the eventual match-winning goal, lifting Charleston over Charlotte.

“It’s an honor to sign with such a historic club,” said Weber. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I am looking forward to defending Patriots Point with all I’ve got. My new teammates and coaches have been very welcoming from the moment I arrived, they’ve made me feel a part of the Battery family since the CCC.”

Weber spent the second half of the 2021 season with USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights FC after joining the club in August. He appeared in 13 matches (eight starts) during the campaign while displaying craftiness and composure with the ball in moving the Lights forward as a wing-back.

Battery Head Coach Conor Casey likes what he’s seen from Weber so far and sees him playing a key role on the left side.

“Tristan has experience in the Championship from last year, and he has come in with a great attitude and personality,” said Coach Casey. “He’s very accurate with his passing, which helps when we’re trying to play balls forward from the back. Tristan has very good range, he’s left-footed, and he has a lot of solid characteristics for that left defensive side.”

A native of San Luis Obispo, California, Tristan played collegiately at San Diego State University from 2019 to 2021 and the University of Portland in 2018. Weber featured in 28 games with the Aztecs during his time in Southern California. At Portland, he helped the Pilots advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He additionally played for Orange County FC while in college (2018-19).

Weber was a highly-rated player coming out of San Clemente High School, being named the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Year and the Gatorade California Boys Soccer Player of the Year. While in high school, Weber played with the Orange County SC U-23s in 2018. He additionally competed in the LA Galaxy Academy from 2014 to 16.

On the international stage, Weber was part of the U.S. Men’s National Team U17 Residency Program from 2016 to 2017. He made his youth international debut with the U17 team in October 2016.

Weber is enthusiastic about the move from the West Coast to the East Coast.

“It’s a blessing to have the next chapter of my career be here in Charleston,” said Weber. “I’m looking forward to helping this team find success and growing as both a player and a person with the Battery.”

Weber elevates the squad size to 24 players and will wear the number 27 for the Battery.
