Charleston Green Drinks, an inclusive community for people passionate about the environment, will host their next gathering at 6pm on Tuesday, March 22nd at Commonhouse Aleworks in North Charleston.

“Let’s Talk Composting” is the theme of this month’s event, which will feature short presentations from SMART Recycling and the Coastal Conservation League, plenty of time to socialize and network, and happy hour specials.

The City of Charleston’s pilot composting program for residents has increased the need for education to avoid contamination. Meghan McGill of SMART Recycling will lead a discussion about why the Charleston-based company is dedicated to diverting our community’s food waste from landfills. She will share information about SMART’s commercial food recycling program, drop-off locations for the residential bins, and composting best practices. SMART Recycling was awarded the 2019 Green Business of the Year by the EEASC for supporting environmental education in South Carolina.

Betsy La Force, a Senior Project Manager on the Communities and Transportation Team at the Coastal Conservation League, will be speaking about the environmental benefits of composting and the many ways you can participate in Charleston.
