Charleston County Parks (CCP) is introducing a new dance series this spring called Dancing on the Cooper. The events will be held at the Mount Pleasant Pier and will include a variety of bands performing different genres of live music throughout the year. The first Dancing on the Cooper event will be April 23rd and will feature Country and Southern rock group Mason Dixon Band.

CCP says the event series was born from their Shaggin’ on the Cooper seires, expanding this year to include a variety of musical genres in addition to shag and beach music – including Motown, Rock, Country and hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Dancing on the Cooper opens at 7 pm and music will run from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. This year’s musical lineup will feature:

  • April 23: Mason Dixon Band (Country and Southern Rock)
  • May 21: Shem Creek Boogie Band (Beach and Shag)
  • June 18: Pop Rock Cult (Pop and Rock)
  • July 9: The SugarBees (Beach and Shag)
  • July 30: Wet Nose Dogs (Eclectic Soul, Blues and Alternative Rock)
  • August 20: Vinyl Daze (Beach and Shag)
  • September 17: Louie D Project (Funk, Jazz and Blues)
  • October 1: The Spazmatics (Funky ‘80s and ‘90s)

Tickets to Dancing on the Cooper are $8 per person in advance and can be purchased by visiting CharlestonCountyParks.com. Events are expected to sell out, so advance purchase is recommended. If not sold out, tickets can be purchased on site at the event for $10 per person.

Beverages will be available for purchase on-site. Food and snacks will be available for purchase at the River Watch Café and Gift Shop, which is located at the entrance to the pier. Outside food, alcohol, and coolers will not be allowed.

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, as seating is limited. Chairs are not permitted within the dance area. Smoking and vaping is not permitted within the event. Pets will not be allowed on the pier.

The Mount Pleasant Pier is located at 71 Harry M. Hallman Jr Blvd. Part of the Memorial Waterfront Park complex, the 1250-foot long Mount Pleasant Pier stretches out into Charleston Harbor under the foot of the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge.
