Charleston County Treasurer’s Office to Host Unclaimed Property Event

Published

The Charleston County Treasurer’s Office is teaming up with the State Treasurer’s office to help residents search for unclaimed property held by the state. The event will be Wednesday, March 16th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Lonnie Hamilton III Public Services Building located at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten utility deposits, unclaimed insurance proceeds, and stocks. The State Treasurer’s Office is the custodian of these funds until they are properly claimed.

“We hope people coming in to pay their taxes will get some welcome news that they have unclaimed property ready to claim from the state,” said Charleston County Treasurer Mary Tinkler.

“With more than $750 million available in South Carolina, and almost $80 million available in Charleston County, we look forward to working with Treasurer Tinkler to reconnect the citizens of Charleston with money that rightfully belongs to them,” said State Treasurer Curtis Loftis.

Residents not able to attend Wednesday’s event can look up their names online here: https://www.charlestoncounty.org/departments/treasurer/index.php.
