UPDATE: Inaugural Car Show Benefiting Families Living with Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia Rescheduled

UPDATE on 3/10/22 – Due to expected inclement weather, The ARK’s Inaugural Car Show has been rescheduled to April 9th.

The ARK of South Carolina will be hosting its Inaugural Car Show on Saturday, March 12th, 2022, at Nexton in Summerville (201 Sigma Drive). The family-friendly event will be open to the public at 9 am and will include food, coffee, and prizes. Admission is free.

Car enthusiasts of all makes and models are invited to enter their vehicle (for a $25 fee) for a chance to win one of several awards. Event proceeds will fund programs such as memory screenings, resource fairs, educational workshops, and support groups in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Orangeburg counties plus respite centers in Harleyville and Summerville.

“We are thrilled to host this new event,” said Peg Lahmeyer, The ARK’s executive director. “We know it will be fun for the family and will give everyone a chance to enjoy beautiful cars while giving back to the community. Guests at The ARK’s Inaugural Car Show will feel a sense of community and we will share our commitment to making sure no one faces this disease alone. Our programs and resources are more critical than ever.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. It is a degenerative disease of the brain that affects memory, awareness, social conversation, and speech. More South Carolinians die from Alzheimer’s disease than in any other state. The average mortality rate for the nation is 37 per 100,000 population, in South Carolina it is 45.1 (2021 Alzheimer’s Facts and Figures report).
