Rep. Mace Co-Sponsors Bill to Invest in Flood Protection for Small Businesses
Rep. Nancy Mace released the following statement after signing on to the bipartisan Providing Resources for Emergency Preparedness and Resilient Enterprises (PREPARE) Act:
“Everyone that lives in the Lowcountry knows the slightest rain can cause certain areas of our district to flood. The multiple hurricanes that pummel our district every few years damage homes, businesses, civic centers, and many of our favorite places in the historic district. This bill would allow the Small Business Administration to grant low interest loans up to $500,000 so that the businesses can invest in measures that will protect them from natural disasters like the floods our district so often experiences. Small businesses would have the ability to flood-proof and would experience less fears after the inevitable floods come because this bill allows them the opportunity to invest in protecting their properties. Every $1 spent on preparation with mitigation efforts yields a return of $6 in avoided losses. The forethought and care we devote to flood-proofing businesses in this bill would be a boon to our Lowcountry economy and tourism.”
