Rep. Mace Statement on Threats Targeting Historically Black Colleges & Universities

Published

on

Ranking Member Nancy Mace released this statement following remarks she gave at the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and what the federal government is doing to respond to a string of recent bomb threats to many of their campuses:

“South Carolina is home to eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities, made up of both two and four-year degree granting institutions and campuses that offer graduate studies programs. We heard from student witnesses about their higher education experiences and how targeted bomb threats are affecting them. Due to these threats, students, faculty and administration officials have been put in fear of their lives.

This is completely unacceptable. HBCUs are an important piece of the overall fabric of higher education in this country, just like our military colleges of which I am a proud graduate. The FBI has prioritized this investigation, but I am concerned that these threats have been going on for over a month now and there have been no arrests. Those responsible for these crimes deserve swift justice. The impact these threats have on our HBCU communities are devastating, and we must respond with the full force of the federal government to mitigate those threats.”
