Tim Lewis to Run for Dorchester County Council District 1 Seat

Tim Lewis, who recently completed a two-year term as Chairman of the Dorchester County Democratic Party, today announced he is running for the Dorchester County Council District 1 seat. He is running as a Democrat.

Lewis, who grew up in Harleyville and remains there today, was elected as Dorchester County Democratic Party chairman in 2020.

“I am proud of the work we’ve done together and thankful for the many leaders and volunteers in the Dorchester County Democratic Party over the last two years,” Lewis said. “Now, Dorchester County is at a crossroad. When I speak with community leaders and everyday working folks, they want someone who is their voice on the County Council. People want to have a personal connection with their elected leaders and respond to their needs. I am proud to have earned their respect and support to represent them.”

Lewis is set to challenge incumbent Harriet Holman, who in February switched political parties to become a Republican candidate.

A veteran who was a commissioned United States Marine Corps officer, Lewis completed his military service and then settled in Charlotte, NC. Lewis, who currently works as a training and development consultant with a major financial corporation, returned to his hometown in 2016 to become a family caregiver.

“I love Dorchester County,” he said. “This is my home, and I can trace my family history all the way back to 1829. I was raised here on a small tobacco farm where I learned the values of faith, family, friends, education, and hard work. That personal local experience combined with my background as a businessman, educator and one who has served my country has taught me how to get things done. I want to work in a bipartisan way that will make our residents’ lives better. It’s that simple. And you don’t need to change political parties to make people’s lives better today, tomorrow and in the future.”
