Karen Hollings Enters Race for Charleston County Register of Deeds
Karen Hollings this week officially filed to enter the race for Charleston County Register of Deeds. She is challenging current incumbent, Michael Miller for the Democratic nomination for Register of Deeds. The primary election will be held June 14th.
Hollings has many years of experience in real estate and in the legal communities. Her expertise includes working in the mortgage banking industry, commercial and residential property management, real estate title abstracting, and paralegal positions in the public and private sectors. She has 20+ years of service with Charleston County in the Register of Deeds Office and in the Office of Judge Louis Condon, Master in Equity.
The citizens of Charleston County have expressed much frustration with extended delays in filing title, liens, and powers of attorney under the current the Register of Deeds. As of February, the Register of Deeds office was placed under court order to remain open on Saturdays and Sundays until the backlog is addressed. Hollings said she believes the Register of Deeds is a “vital office that need to quietly operate and not be part of a front-page story”.
Over the course of the election, Hollings said she is looking forward to meeting with voters and sharing her plans to modernize the Register of Deeds office.
