On Saturday, April 30th, tumble down the rabbit hole with Itinerant Literate Books as they transform their backyard into a wonderland in celebration of Independent Bookstore Day (IBD). Support your local, indie bookstore by discovering your next favorite book and enjoying Independent Bookstore Day exclusives, including Bookstores Are My Jam merchandise, IBD-themed pencils and MadLibs, and more! Plus, buy 5 books, get a free book (dealer’s choice) and get 20% off blind dates!

You’re encouraged to come dressed as your favorite Alice in Wonderland character and enter the ongoing costume contest while partaking in the lineup of bookish events happening throughout the day, including:

Pup-Tastic Teatime with Park Pets: 11 am, $10

Bring your four-legged companion with you to enjoy a doggie teatime co-hosted with our friends at Park Pets. Tea tickets include a dog treat and dog-friendly “tea.” Park Pets will have a small shop set up, and pups can enjoy socializing with their friends in the backyard (leash required).

Wonderland Story Time & Tea Party with Jocelyn Rish: 1 pm, $12

Join us for an extra-special story time with local author Jocelyn Rish, author of Battle of the Butts! We will have a dual-narrator reading of the book, in which favorite creatures from the animal kingdom face off to see whose derrière reigns supreme, and then Jocelyn will answer questions from the group. Ticket price includes tea and teatime snacks.

Literary Tea with Gervais Hagerty: 3 pm, $12

Stop by for afternoon tea with local author Gervais Hagerty! The author will discuss her Charleston-set book In Polite Company and answer questions from attendees. Ticket price includes tea and teatime snacks.

Mad Hatter’s Plant Party & Succulent Workshop with Roadside Blooms: 5 pm

Design your own unique succulent planting in a vintage teacup in this workshop presented by Roadside Blooms!

Ongoing activities include the costume contest, croquet, black-out poetry station and bring your own hat Mad Hatter decoration station.

We are also excited to note that we are partnering with Real Champions, Inc., for Independent Bookstore Day this year, with 10% of sales from this day going as a donation for their mentor/mentee program that keeps books active in the lives of the children they serve.
