Must-Watch Plays For The New Theatergoers

Published

on

If you’re yet to see a live play since your childhood days, it’s okay to wonder about where to begin. After all, the world of theater is pretty dynamic, and in the last decade, it has become even more lively.

However, like any other segment of the entertainment industry, the universe of stagecraft does not produce masterclasses all the time. Therefore, finding a well-round play can be a little challenging, especially if you haven’t been in touch for some time.

But, don’t fret!

In this article, we’ve rounded up five different plays that’ll be a pleasure to watch and enjoy. Also, if you can’t go to a theater right now, you can download them from u1337x.org. There’s no need to subscribe or pay for anything.

Top 5 Modern Plays To Keep An Eye On

Yes, we get it. The world of theater does not get the same love as the segment of TV shows or movies. However, in our opinion, they are in a world of their own. So, like us, if you, too, are into watching thought-provoking plays, the following section would be perfect for you.

Option – 1: Mission Drift

A 2012 masterclass, Mission Drift, in essence, is a modern take on the curse of the so-called American Dream. It dissects US capitalism from the core and recreates the greedy, giddy thrill it promises to everyone.

Additionally, the play also mixes mythology and history with a sense of modernism to create an environment that you can relate to. It’s awesome!

Option – 2: Songs Of The Dragons Flying To Heaven

Gleefully profane and wildly scorching, Young Jean Lee’s “Songs Of The Dragons Flying To Heaven” is a quintessential identity-politics comedy. It portrays the story of Lee, an artist, who populates the stage with three Korean women, and a hateful Korean-American lady.

Lee, as a Korean-American artist, explores the state of bias and prejudice in America. It also mimes suicides to “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey.

Sounds pretty intriguing, no?

Option – 3: The Smile Off Your Face

Imagine a scenario.

You are sitting quietly in a wheelchair, blindfolded and kept in a room where all of your senses are being caressed. Someone’s running their fingers through your hair, sighs, whispers intimate questions, or pops chocolate in your mouth.

Deprived of your primary sense, sight, you’re focusing intently on each stimulus you get.

All of a sudden, an individual restores your vision, and you see an unknown face in front of you, crying silently, and you’re left thinking, “what the heck has happened here?”

That’s precisely what “The Smile Off Your Face” is. It’s elusive, intriguing, and suspenseful at its best. We didn’t find a single dull moment while watching it.

Option – 4: God Of Carnage

Offering a brilliant mix of bourgeois hypocrisy and realism, God Of Carnage depicts the story of an ostensibly-civilized couple. The play is mainly about two people talking to each other with no exciting action involved.

However, the satires included in every bit of the storyline will keep you at the edge of your seat. The dialogues are pretty witty as well.

Option – 5: The Height Of The Storm

Like any other Florian Zeller play, “The Height Of The Storm” is all about offering a cryptic portrayal of an individual’s personal crisis. It has everything, the sensation of first love, losing an essential thing in life, dementia, and not accepting the death of a loved one.

The main character of the show is played by Jonathan Pryce, who did deserve a standing ovation for his fantastic performance.

Conclusion

So, there you go – an accumulation of some of the plays that you should watch in 2022. Some of them are pretty old, though. Hence, if you don’t find the shows on the internet, we’ll ask you to read the storyline from somewhere. You can find them in PDF form on the web.

Anyways, now, we’ll be concluding this article. If you have anything else to share or have a query to ask, make sure to let us know in the comment section below. We will be waiting!
