Four Local Pianists Featured In Charleston Jazz Orchestra’s Chick Corea Concert
Four highly-accomplished local pianists will take on the musical stylings of the legendary Chick Corea, alongside the Charleston Jazz Orchestra May 13th at Firefly Distillery at 6 pm, and May 14th at 5 pm & 8 pm at the Charleston Music Hall. The featured performers include fiery Venezuelan artist, Abdiel Iriarte; skateboarding master of the keys, Gerald Gregory; Armenian-born recording artist, Arshak Sirunyan; and renowned bandleader and producer, Demetrius Doctor. Led by maestro Robert Lewis, the Lowcountry’s premier big band orchestra promises an unforgettable evening of musical excellence.
Chick Corea, a pianist of unparalleled skill, broadened the scope of jazz during a career spanning more than five decades. With limitless range, Corea was an inventive composer-bandleader who never shied away from new ideas, exploring sounds ranging from fusion to classical. According to Corea, “Great art is made when the artist is free to try whatever techniques he wants, and combine things any way he wants.”
