City of Charleston Hosts Operation Neighborhood on James Island
On Saturday, May 14th, city leaders, staff, and other residents will take part in the city’s second Operation Neighborhood event in conjunction with the Ferguson Village Neighborhood Association from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
Each quarter, a city neighborhood is chosen, based on need and request, to serve as the venue for an Operation Neighborhood event.
At the inaugural event with the Forest Neighborhood Coalition and Palmilla Apartments in West Ashley, roughly 50 city employees and community members volunteered their time to come together to complete maintenance and beautification tasks, based on the neighborhood’s unique needs.
In the Ferguson Village Neighborhood on Saturday, Operation Neighborhood efforts may include (but are not limited to):
- Litter cleanup
- Drain cleaning
- Graffiti removal
- Lamp post maintenance
- Tree planting
- Street and sidewalk repair
- Street sweeping
- Dissemination of information regarding city services
- Lighting improvements
- Outreach regarding code enforcement
- Right-of-way landscape maintenance
- Engagement with public safety officers
