We Are Sharing Hope SC Celebrates Organ Donation Milestones
We Are Sharing Hope SC is humbled by the courage and compassion of South Carolinians, honoring the most organ donor legacies in March and April. In March, 24 organ donors and their families created a second chance for those waiting on the national transplant waiting list. The selflessness of our community continued in April with 26 organ donors and their families saying “YES” to this lifesaving gift.
These noteworthy numbers coincide with this week’s recognition of National Hospital Week. We Are Sharing Hope SC is grateful for their partners in donation, collaborating with over 80 hospitals across the state to honor the donation decision at the end of life.
“I am inspired by the donor heroes and families who continue to say YES to organ, eye, and tissue donation,” said Dave DeStefano, President and CEO of We Are Sharing Hope SC. “As an organization, we are grateful to our hospital partners who work tirelessly to honor every legacy, every life, every time. This milestone is a reminder of the value in education and awareness, addressing the need across the nation and here in South Carolina.”
Today, there are roughly 1,500 individuals on the transplant waiting list in South Carolina.
