Nothing But Positive Vibes Coming from Wine & Craft Beer Retailer & Sipping Bar

Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review

The Bend in Carolina Park Mount Pleasant added a new shape (pun intended) recently with the addition of Rooted Bottle Market & Bar. The upscale wine and craft beer sipping room is an ideal complement to the ever-growing retail and shopping community just off 17 North in Carolina Park across from the Costco, offering patrons a unique experience not found in the northern end of Mount Pleasant.

Owned and operated by Kevin Regan, Peter Demarest and William Hoffman, the trio bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to Rooted. Kevin and William became acquainted with each other while pouring wine at Bin 526 on Daniel Island. New Jersey native Peter worked most recently as a sommelier at The Grand Bohemian Hotel (55 Wentworth St) in downtown Charleston.

Among their hand-selected fruits of the vine are family-farmed, sustainable, natural, and organic wines from various wine producing regions around the world. Enjoy over 150 wine labels from Europe, South America, Napa Valley, among other obscure vineyards.

A splendid glass of French L’odalet Blend, Pay d’Oc (blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grapes) is a cool $8. A lush merlot from the vineyards of Robert Foley (Napa Valley) with its velvety tannins will set you back a cool $22. Depending on your palate, whether you prefer sparkling, white, rose’ or red, many of their select wines by the glass range from $12-$15.

Craft brew lovers have an assortment of specialty beers and ciders to choose from including several from low country and regional breweries. If your taste buds are drawn to the more popular IPAs (India Pale Ales) with their hoppier and often citrus and fruity flavors then Rooted offer a nice selection. Maybe enjoy a classic cocktail with a small cheese or charcuterie plate. Talk of dessert boards are on the horizon.

With a few niche eateries and businesses surrounding them in The Bend, Rooted subscribe to their mantra ‘rooted in Charleston, and rooted in friends & family’. Rooted offer a very welcoming well-lit modern environment that’s a cross between a cafe and living room, with an equally inviting decor including wooden bistro tables that overspill to an adjacent shared open air patio ideal for late night gatherings.

Without question the most endearing story at Rooted is the historic wooden door, ironically hanging on the wall! A fourth-generation bar keep, Peter’s great grandfather came over from Italy in the late 1800s opening a tavern in Newark New Jersey soon thereafter. The neighborhood saloon door was the at the entrance. Now it’s proudly displayed at Rooted where it embodies an affable community environment.

Come as you are. Come after work. Come just to forget about the crazy that is happening in the world. Come sit on the plush leather sofas, and enjoy pleasant conversation while sipping your favorite wine. At Rooted visitors quickly become new friends. If you live in Rivertowne, Dunes West, Park West, or Charleston National than you’re less than 10 minutes away.

If you reside in Carolina Park Rooted Bottle Market & Bar is pretty much on your doorstep. As the crow flies or via GPS they are located at 3510 Park Avenue Blvd, Suite 100. Come for a sip or select an awesome bottle to take home for that special evening or dinner party. Maybe grab a few craft beers as well.

You don’t need to be a wine connoisseur to drop in or purchase a bottle to take home. The guys are more than happy to help you select the right one for any celebration. Open Tues-Thurs 11-8pm, Fri-Sat 11-10pm, and Sun 11-6pm. Closed on Monday. Summer hours may enhance closing times. Select wine tasting events on occasion.
