Moncks Corner Eatery Doubles as a Family Friendly Hotdog Sports Bar

Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review

Aside from a couple Mexican themed eateries, Gilligan’s Seafood, and the more upscale Barony House, Moncks Corner is primarily a haven for fast food restaurants, where run of the mill burgers, pizza, and fried chicken are the standard fare. To set yourself apart you not only have to come up with something that is outside the box, but the food has to be pretty darn good. If not, you’ll go bust rather quickly even in rural Berkeley County.

That’s exactly what husband and wife team Graylnn and Kaitlyn Moran did when they opened That’s My Dawg back in January of 2022. After running a successful food truck under the same name for several years, the couple who live in nearby Foxbank Plantation off Hwy 52 decided to open a brick-and-mortar location, thankfully bringing their tasty homemade food creations to hungry and appreciative patrons on a daily basis.

While their name suggests they are a purveyor of the all-American favorite hotdog, That’s My Dawg sell a variety of everyday comfort foods. However, make no mistake customers flock to their location for any of the five signature ‘dawgs’ including the number one favorite ‘Slawter Dawg’, a perfectly grilled Carolina Pride hotdog topped with mustard before being slathered in homemade chili, homemade slaw, and diced onion. At $4 it’s worth every all-beef bite.

Layer your ‘Slawter Dawg’ with a bevy of condiments (mustard, mayo & ketchup) and add grilled onions and dill pickles and you have the $4 Big Dawg. Wrap it in bacon and queso and it becomes the $5 Bacon Dawg. Want a change of pace, the Sausage Dog resembles your boardwalk grilled brat under a blanket of peppers and onions with a slash of mustard. A steal at $6. Add a mere $3 to any ‘dawg’ order and make it a basket.

Tired of the dried-out mystery meat burgers you get at the chain restaurants, That’s Your Dawg prepare four signature hand-pattied burgers that are dropped fresh on the grill before they are adorned for the table. The Classic comes topped with veggies and cheese, with the Bacon Beast Burger cloaked in a heaping serving of bacon, cheese and your choice of toppings.

The Sloppy Burger is aptly named because it’s smothered in chili. The Humpty Dumpty Burger is akin to a breakfast burger with an ample application of bacon, cheese, and egg over easy. Occasional daily burger specials include a Hawaiian topped with juicy pineapple. All the burgers are super juicy and range from $12-$14.

Not feeling the ‘dawg’ or a burger, there’s always the Chicken or Steak Philly covered in a blend of grilled peppers, onions, and mushrooms on a soft hoagie roll. Palate worthy. If you’re not a big meat eater the Cobb Salad and Caesar Salad chime in at $9 each.

Wait there’s more. That’s My Dawg offer up seven different but very familiar appetizers including Egg Rolls, Jalapeno Poppers, and Fried Pickles. They all go great with a cold beer. Every Thursday is dollar wing night with nine different flavors to choose from.

Hotdogs may be king at That’s My Dawg but their everyday menu is a pleasant supporting cast. Plenty of cameo daily food specials to excite the taste buds including Pot Roast Sandwich, a BLT, Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich, Cowboy Burger (topped with crispy onion ring), and Spaghetti Dinners. On Select Friday nights you can enjoy a steak dinner complete with 10oz filet mignon, one side, a salad, and NY style cheesecake. And here’s the kicker, it’s only $27. Freakin’ awesome!

Graylnn likes to say That’s My Dawg is a one of a kind ‘Hotdog Sports Bar’. Two big flat screen TVs sit behind the counter. Enjoy the game while throwing back a cold one with your entree or app of choice. If the kids are in tow, maybe let them enjoy chicken tender or grilled cheese basket. Maybe reward them or yourself with a cup or cone of soft serve vanilla ice cream.

Breaking it down, That’s My Dawg is a family friendly eatery focusing on hotdogs with everyday comfort foods as well. There’s no rhyme or reason to their daily specials, except good eating food. Plenty of cold Bud & Michelob products to go along with your favorite Pepsi product. The dining room is clean and there’s always country music playing in the background. On weekends you just might enjoy live music from an acoustic guitar player.

You can order ahead and pick it up in their drive thru. Whether you dine in or take it with you, That’s My Dawg will fill you up without emptying your wallet. Plenty of options available. Open 11-9pm most days. You can find them at 636F Rembert C. Dennis Blvd. in the same strip center with Cinco De Mayo.
