Press Release

Earlier this year, Enough Pie celebrated its 10th anniversary by inviting past and present community stakeholders together for an intentional gathering over listening sessions. The listening sessions were held virtually and allowed community members such as nonprofit organizations, arts organizations, city staff, members of the education and medical communities, and more to uplift their voice on the needs of the community. As a result we received feedback on what they love about Charleston and what their concerns are for the arts, cultural preservation, and developmental impacts towards community members and neighborhoods.

We welcome you to join us on Saturday, June 11th from 10 am to 12 pm at Burke High School for an overview of what we heard while engaging with neighbors and community stakeholders. We also invite the community to provide additional feedback to ensure Enough Pie and other organizations’ work is aligned with the future of the Charleston Peninsula.

To showcase the importance of this event, Thetyka Robinson, Interim Executive Director for Enough Pie, shares that, “What we learned over this process is that in spite of changes happening on the peninsula, the community residents and activists desire to see equitable growth and cultural preservation, which is critical to ensuring the history of Charleston so that the stories and experiences that make our city so special are not forgotten.”

As a community, we are all affected by the changes happening on the peninsula, regardless of where you live in the tri-county area. We need your voice, presence, and feedback because it will directly impact the future of Charleston for all stakeholder groups. This day will include participant engagement and opportunities for the community to lift their voice regarding changes taking place in our neighborhoods. We invite all to come out and discuss amongst members of the Charleston community who are gathering to advocate for, and protect the history and culture of the peninsula.
