Senator Mia McLeod Issues a Debate Challenge to Joe Cunningham

Senator Mia McLeod (right), Democratic Candidate for Governor, today released a statement challenging fellow candidate Joe Cunningham to a debate.

“I’m ready to debate Joe Cunningham immediately,” State Senator McLeod said. “I’m sure he, like any serious candidate, will agree that the people of South Carolina deserve to hear where we stand on the issues that matter most. I’ve eagerly accepted every invitation to debate I’ve received. Joe has not. I hope that will change.”

According to McLeod’s campaign, the lone Democratic Primary debate scheduled for June 1st was canceled last week.

“While my primary opponents and I have engaged in a number of caucus-sponsored online forums, they do not serve as a substitute for a professionally broadcasted and moderated, formal debate on the issues,” Senator McLeod said. “Aas candidates, we all agree that our state’s broadband infrastructure is woefully inadequate—social media streaming is not a replacement for a televised debate that airs statewide.”
