Former Executive Director Mac Burdette Named Patriots Point’s Interim Agency Head
The Patriots Point Development Authority (PPDA) Board voted unanimously today to name Mac Burdette (right) as interim director of the state agency. Burdette will assume the role starting June 23rd while the Board works through a selection process to name the successor to Dr. Rorie Cartier.
The announcement marks the second time Burdette will serve as agency chief of Patriots Point. He first served as executive director from 2010 to 2019, when he retired. In September 2019, he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto aboard the USS Yorktown for his contributions to South Carolina while leading the naval and maritime museum. The award is the state’s highest civilian honor.
“Mac served as our executive director during some of our most successful years,” said Vice-Chairman of the PPDA Board Wayne Adams. “We are confident in his ability to manage Patriots Point as we conduct a thorough search process for a permanent executive director.”
“The nine years I spent at Patriots Point was the most enjoyable of my career,” said Mac Burdette. “I look forward to working with the talented and devoted staff over the next few months. It’s an honor for me to serve aboard these historic ships again.”
