on

On Monday, June 27th, from 1 pm to 3 pm, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, the city of Charleston Mayor’s Office on Aging, and the South Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host the Mayor’s Roundtable on Brain Health. The event will be held at the Waring Senior Center (2001 Henry Tecklenburg Drive).

The Mayor’s Roundtable on Brain Health aims to increase awareness and identify lifestyle behaviors to reduce the risk of cognitive decline and ensure those suffering with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, as well as their families and caregivers, have access to the support services and resources they need. June has been designated by Mayor Tecklenburg as Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month in the city of Charleston.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 95,000 South Carolinians are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and nearly 200,000 family members and friends are providing care for them, many here in Charleston. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and in South Carolina.
