Charleston Horse Carriage Companies Host Inaugural “Carriage Community Day of Service” with Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach
Last Wednesday, the member companies of the Charleston Carriage Association for Responsible Equine Safety (C.A.R.E.S.) partnered with Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach (OLM) to host the inaugural Carriage Community Day of Service. Each carriage company collected donations for Our Lady of Mercy and a group of about 15 carriage employees spent the morning volunteering at OLM’s campus on Johns Island. Our volunteers painted the exterior windows and doors of OLM’s main outreach building, trimmed hedges, and pressure washed all of the buildings on the Johns Island campus.
“As family-operated companies, we care deeply about our communities and are always looking for ways to give back,” Charleston C.A.R.E.S. said in a statement. “We are grateful for the work Our Lady of Mercy is doing in the community and are proud to support them in that work.”
Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach provides basic and emergency resources, education, job assistance, and health services to residents of the Sea Islands and downtown Charleston that are in need.
Charleston C.A.R.E.S. was established in 2017 and is made up of the three largest carriage companies in Charleston: Charleston Carriage Works, Old South Carriage Company, and Palmetto Carriage Works. Their mission is to advocate for the highest levels of equine care in the nation.
