PBS Short Film Festival to Feature Three Films From SCETV Presents Series “Reel South”
The PBS Short Film Festival, a multiplatform initiative to increase the reach and visibility of independent filmmakers from across the country, has announced that three films from the South Carolina ETV (SCETV) produced series Reel South will be featured during the 2022 Festival. Starting at midnight on Monday, July 11th, audiences can watch and share all 27 films featured during the festival on PBS’ digital platforms.
Since its inception in 2012, the PBS Short Film Festival has showcased hundreds of films that celebrate love, acceptance, family, strength, equality, friendship, loyalty and other topics. The 2022 festival carries the tagline “Stories that Stick” to highlight the impact of powerful storytelling.
Films featured in the 2022 PBS Short Film Festival have been selected and provided by 16 public media partners and PBS member stations. A panel of nine jury members will select their favorite film of the festival for the Juried Prize.
The SCETV Presents series Reel South reveals the South’s proud, yet complicated, heritage as told by diverse voices and perspectives. The series curates and distributes feature-length and short documentaries that air on stations across the U.S.
On July 19th, Disrupted Borders will explore a coming-of-age story about two best friends living on the US-Mexico border. The next film, Road to Step will be released on July 20th and focuses on a University of Mississippi fraternity’s step team as they vie for the Black Step Show crown on campus. Then, on July 21st, You Can’t Stop Spirit explores the Mardi Gras Baby Dolls’ masking tradition and themes of identity and sexual liberation among Black women in New Orleans.
