Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K Set for October 1st on Johns Island
Charleston County Parks is thrilled to invite runners back to Johns Island County Park for the annual Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K race on Saturday, October 1st.
Runners will take in foliage, moss-draped oaks, and native wildlife as they make their way through Johns Island’s off-road trails. Races are offered for two distances: a half marathon and 5K. The half marathon begins at 8 am, while the 5K starts at 8:30 am.
Registration is now available and ends on Monday, September 26th. On-site registration will not be available. Race fees are $38 for the 5K and $55 for the half marathon. An awards ceremony will take place after the race.
Participants ages 10-15 can register for the race, but must be accompanied by an adult chaperone who is also running. The half marathon is a run-only event. Two water stations will be available on the course, but pre-filled personal water bottles are highly recommended. The course offers occasional areas of uneven terrain and varies from hard-packed trails with roots to grass. Strollers are not recommended. Dogs are not allowed on the course.
“One of the local trail running community’s favorite venues, Johns Island County Park is a rural beauty that offers varied terrain,” said Charleston County Parks Fitness and Wellness Manager Allison Foster. “The option to choose two dramatically different distances, a Half Marathon or a 5K, makes this race appealing to all fitness levels.”
Johns Island County Park is located at 2662 Mullet Hall Road, just off River Road. The park sits on 738 acres and offers miles of trails.
