WalletHub recently released its study on  2022’s States with the Most Underprivileged Children, and South Carolina ranked as having the 15th most underprivileged children in the country. This news comes two days after South Carolina was listed as being 2022’s Worst State to Have a Baby and a month after being ranked as the state with the 7th Most At-Risk Youth.

In order to bring awareness to the condition of underprivileged children throughout the U.S., WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 27 key measures of neediness. The data set ranges from share of children in households with below-poverty income to child food-insecurity rate to share of maltreated children.

Welfare of Children in South Carolina (1=Most; 25=Avg.):

  • 9th – % of Children in Households with Below-Poverty Income
  • 15th – % of Maltreated Children
  • 27th – Child Food-Insecurity Rate
  • 21st – % of Uninsured Children
  • 12th – Infant Mortality Rate
  • 6th – % of Children in Single-Parent Families
  • 13th – % of Residents Who Are Fully Vaccinated
