Mac’s Daniel Island Keeping Tradition Alive at 259 Seven Farms Drive
Second Location for Longstanding Sports Bar Comes with DI Twist
By: Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review
After a successful 11 year run with Mac’s Place at 215 East Bay Street, Daniel Island resident Garret McNally decided it was time to open a second location closer to home. Whether by divine intervention or twist of fate, the original Daniel Island Grill (DIG) was becoming available allowing Garret and opportunity he couldn’t pass up on.
While Garret is a tried-and-true Chicago sports fan with his downtown eatery reflecting his love for the Windy City, his newest spot is more welcoming to a variety of pro and college sports lovers, especially those who embrace college teams from around the south (ACC & SEC).
For past patrons of DIG the layout is similar, however the overall decor and the menu have changed. If it’s been a while or you’re going in new, Mac’s Daniel Island is located at 259 Seven Farms Drive in the heart of the thriving community. They offer plenty of seating indoors with a good-sized bar, with even more tables and spacious bar underneath a covered patio. Sports fans, there are big screens throughout.
Mac’s Boar’s Head Monster Club Sandwich is appropriately titled, overflowing with Boar’s Head turkey, ham, and bacon served with either traditional or sweet potato fries, as well as your choice of house made chips or carrots & celery with dressing. Variety never hurts!
The juicy half pound Mac’s Burger is a steal at $12 and comes with several options including a wheat or kaiser roll. Add your favorite cheese for just a buck more or knock it out of the ballpark with either sauteed onions & mushrooms, crispy bacon or fried egg. An old-fashioned breakfast burger taste just as awesome at three in the afternoon.
Not to be outdone Garret’s Chicago Style Italian Beef Sandwich pays homage to the Philly Cheese Steak with a French twist. Sauteed thinly sliced Vienna Italian beef presented on a soft hoagie and topped with giardiniera (an Italian relish of pickled vegetables in vinegar or oil). To top it off it comes with a side of Au Jus (roasting juice) for dipping. Succulent to the max. Ooh la-la!
If you’re popping in with your friends after work or to catch the big game, maybe order a few rounds of appetizers to complement a cold brew. The Bavarian Pretzel Sticks (served with a choice of cheese, honey mustard, mustard, or ranch) and the more zestier pepper jack Cheese Stuffed Pretzels served with your choice of ranch, marinara, or nacho cheese top the list. $8 and $5.50 respectively.
Mac’s DI carry many of your favorite beers in bottle or draft including several from local breweries. Enjoy IPAs, ambers, and pilsners from the likes of Coast Brewing, Munkle, Revelry, and Coast Brands alongside a hearty Guinness stout and or crispy Angry Orchard.
If you’re coming in with the little Macs, they’ll have six different options that appeal to the 12 and under crowd including pepperoni pizza, grilled cheese, and fish & chips. All kid’s menu selections come with a side and choice of water, juice, or a soft drink. And if you’re wondering, all entrees are made fresh daily, and whenever possible Mac’s uses local produce & ingredients.
259 Seven Farms Drive has long had a reputation of welcoming Daniel Island residents and those who work and visit the tight knit community. With Mac’s Daniel Island Sports Bar & Grill now occupying the space, they invite patrons to bring the family, meet friends after work or take in the big game while enjoying good food and drink. For sports fans there’s not a seat in the house where you can’t see a big-screen television.
