Charleston Coalition for Kids Announces New Executive Director, Releases Candidate Survey for Charleston County School Board

The Charleston Coalition for Kids, an organization dedicated to the improvement of public education in Charleston County School District, is proud to announce Dustin Daniels as the organization’s new executive director.

Daniels was selected for the role because of his deep knowledge of educational transformation and his experience in political strategy and campaign communication. While Head of Strategy for the Transformation Network of Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) in Florida, Dustin helped decrease the number of “D” and “F” schools by 82 percent and helped 38 of 45 of the HCPS’ most vulnerable and chronically underperforming schools improve by at least one letter grade during the global pandemic from 2019-2022.

He also helped secure funding for the Charleston County School District as a consultant to address teacher retention and burnout issues and connected CCSD with partnerships focused on rapid school improvement, including with the Strategic Data Project at Harvard University and the National Education Equity Lab.

“Dustin brings an incredible record of impact in education, and will work hard to raise awareness and implement proven ideas to improve all schools,” said Loren Ziff, board chair of the Charleston Coalition for Kids. “We believe that change starts with leadership at the top, and Dustin joins our community at a pivotal time, including during an election cycle where all nine school board seats are open and the community’s focus remains on post-COVID student achievement.”

“Taking on this role in Charleston at such a critical juncture for the community is both humbling and energizing,” Daniels said. “I look forward to building a movement for educational transformation in Charleston with anyone and everyone who believes our school system should do everything it can to ensure a world-class education for every single child in this community.”

Under Daniels’ direction, the Charleston Coalition for Kids is seeking information from all candidates for Charleston County School Board through its 2022 School Board Candidate Questionnaire to identify candidates that align with the organization’s mission to spark real and lasting change in the community. Candidates are encouraged to submit the questionnaire by Sept. 13.
