Chamber Music Charleston Launches New Season with Performances at Sottile Theatre
Chamber Music Charleston celebrates the start of the 2022-2023 season with the launch of the Classical Kids Concert Series and the continuation of the acclaimed Ovation Concert Series at Sottile Theatre.
On Saturday, September 17th, families will be treated to a 45-minute program introducing younger audiences to the instruments of a wind quintet – the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn. Selections from Hindemith’s Wind Quintet and a rousing sing-along to “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” will lead up to the centerpiece of the program: a musical adaptation of “The Story of Ferdinand,” about the gentle bull who would rather smell flowers than fight in the bullring. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 4-16 and Free for children 3 and under.
On Sunday, September 18th musicians of CMC will be joined by Spanish violinist Alejandro Bustamante and Canadian clarinetist Dominic Desautels to open the Ovation Concert Series. Mr. Bustamante and Mr. Desautels will join CMC violinist Jenny Weiss, violist Ben Weiss and cellist Timothy O’Malley in a program of music including Turina’s La oración del torero, Op 34 for String Quartet and Brahm’s Clarinet Quintet in B minor. Tickets begin at $5 for students and parents, $23 for Seniors, and $30 for general admission. A limited number of VIP tickets are available, which include section A seating and an invitation to meet the musicians and fellow audience members in the Barnett Courtyard outside of Sottile Theatre.
These performances mark the official start of the 2022-2023 concert season, which will include over 50 performances of chamber music throughout the greater Charleston area. The season will consist of 4 Ovation Concerts at Sottile Theatre, 3 Salon Series performances at the historic South Carolina Society Hall, 24 individual House Concerts, 3 Classical Kids Concerts at Sottile Theatre, and a number of special events. Chamber Music Charleston’s Youth Chamber Music Initiative will bring a number of educational opportunities and performances to the area, including a residency with the Charleston County School of the Arts and performances of the musicians of the CMC TWO program.
