PURE Theatre Announces Regional Premiere of “Clyde’s” by Lynn Nottage
PURE Theatre today announced the second show in their 20th Anniversary Season, Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’s. The show will run from October 27th to November 19th at the Cannon Street Arts Center.
Creating the perfect sandwich is the shared quest of the formerly incarcerated kitchen staff of Clyde’s, a truck stop cafe. Even as the shop’s callous owner tries to keep them under her thumb, the staff members are given purpose and permission to dream by the enigmatic, zen-like chef and his belief in the possibility of the perfect sandwich.
The show is directed by Chad Henderson, a professional theatre artist who served as the Artistic Director of Trustus Theatre (2015–2021) in Columbia and is the Marketing Director for the South Carolina Philharmonic. The show features PURE Core Ensemble members Joy Vandervort-Cobb in the titular role of Clyde, along with Michael Smallwood, Tonya Smalls Williams, and Addison Dent. The Core members will be joined by Keith Alston.
Lynn Nottage is a playwright and a screenwriter. She is the first, and remains the only, woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice. Her plays have been produced widely in the United States and throughout the world. PURE has featured Nottage’s work in several past seasons, including Mlima’s Tale this past June and Sweat in 2019.
Tickets range from $30 to $45. There will be two “Pay What You Will” Performances on October 27th and November 2nd. There are a limited number of $10 tickets available at the door before every performance. Depending on availability, student rush tickets are available for $10 at the door before performances. Clyde’s is also available through the All-Access Flex Pass, which includes tickets and reserved seats to every show along with a host of other benefits.
Additional information about Clyde’s and the All-Access Flex Pass can be found on PURE’s website at puretheatre.org or by calling the box office at 843.723.4444 (Tuesday through Friday 1 pm – 4 pm).
