Barnette and Knight Headline Terrifying Regional Premier of “Misery”
Hot off the heels of the success of Season 91 opening production The Full Monty, Footlight Players in residence at the Queen Street Playhouse (QSP) is back just in time for the Halloween season with the regional premier of Misery, adapted from the Stephen King novel and film of the same title.
Misery follows the terrifying experience of famous romance novelist Paul Sheldon (Kyle Barnette) who is rescued from freezing to death in a car crash by his ‘number one fan,’ Annie Wilkes (Madelyn Knight). When events take a nightmarish turn, the injured Paul realizes the unhinged Annie has no intention of letting him leave. Torture and horror ensue with blood, gun shots and a little bit of ankle hobbling all on the menu.
Footlight Artistic Director Kyle Barnette has directed some of the theatre’s most beloved shows over the past few years including The Full Monty, The Legend of Georgia McBride and Head Over Heels, but Misery will mark his first time back on the stage since appearing as Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps back in 2018.
Joining Barnette in this nightmarish ride is Charleston City Paper two time Best Local Actress winner Madelyn Knight as Annie Wilkes. Knight has been a popular presence on the QSP stage featuring in A Gentleman’s Guide To Love and Murder, Head Over Heels and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
Rounding out the three person cast is Steve Tarnow (The Full Monty, She Loves Me) as the curious Sheriff Buster. Misery is directed by Clark Haywood, making his Footlight directing debut, whom was last featured as Miss Tracy Mills in last spring’s The Legend of Georgia McBride.
The set of Misery will be a very special feature of this production, designed by recent College of Charleston graduate and KCACTF National Scenic Design Award winner Julia Mimo.
Misery kicks off the Halloween theatre season on October 7th at the Queen Street Playhouse. Tickets can be purchased at footlightplayers.net or by calling the box office at 843.722.4487.
