Simple but effective ways of making any room pop

Published

on

Whether it’s moving into a new place, turning a home office into something a little more stylish, or simply changing how your place looks, we’re all prone to overthinking our design ideas and throwing too many concepts (quite literally) at the wall.

But that only serves to confuse and clutter the rooms we were hoping to make pop a little bit more. Stick to these simple and effective design ideas to keep your spaces inviting, interesting, and welcoming.

Personalise that wall art

A piece of wall art in a room can draw the eye, add more personality to a room, and instantly give you that extra flourish that can really make a room feel loved and lived in.

Avoid the endless choices of standard framed images that everyone has. Instead, aim for a nice display of custom photo prints to give your room more depth and heart. Whatever those images are, just be sure that they make you happy and have a good story behind them!

A colourful rug can transform a room

One well-placed rug can do more to make a room pop than a hundred little trinkets and ornaments ever could. Choose one colour (or two at a push) that accentuates the art on the wall and the surrounding furniture.

Embrace a minimalist approach to furniture

Just to be clear, embracing a minimalist design doesn’t mean having a cold and bare room with no personality whatsoever. Instead, it’s about using natural light, neutral colours, and a few simple but effective pieces of art and furniture to create a more stylish and spacious room.

We are all so used to just piling up the clutter that we miss out on how effective the use of space can be for us. Remove the non-essentials, stand back, and enjoy the soothing feel of minimalist room space.

Keep it to one focal point per room

Speaking of minimalism, it’s easy to add too many focal points in a room. If you can keep it to one centrepiece in a room (and no, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have sofas and chairs in the room!), you can accentuate the surrounding space and create a better sense of unity within those four walls.

It’s common to feel the need to fill each space and add more things to a room. But this runs the risk of feeling cluttered and claustrophobic to visitors.

Plants and mirrors can make all the difference

A well-placed mirror can add depth and space to any room and give the illusion of the place being much bigger than it actually is. The added light around the room will help to maintain this illusion, as long as you place the mirror in question (if you’re shopping for large-scale mirrors) at people’s height.

But we also want to add some life to these spaces as well, which is where adding a little greenery comes into play. Not only will it make the overall feel of a room more pleasing, but it’ll provide some wonderful aesthetic benefits too. However, try and resist the urge to add too many plants and overwhelm a room.
