Dorchester County Announces Government Closures Due to Storm Impacts
A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Dorchester County until further notice. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicates that Dorchester County will begin to experience deteriorating weather as early as Thursday evening (9/29/22) with worsening conditions lasting until early Saturday (10/1/22) morning.
As a reminder, please do not walk or drive through flood waters as it can be extremely dangerous and life threatening. Follow the saying, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Dorchester County Courts
All Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Dorchester County Courts will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Dorchester County Convenience Sites
All Dorchester County Convenience Sites will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022. As long as site conditions allow, Convenience Sites are planning to reopen on Saturday, October 1, 2022, following their regular schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Miles Jamison Road Yard Debris Convenience Site (130 Suburban Ln.) and the Sandy Pines Yard Debris Convenience Site (374 Sandy Pines Ln.) are planning to be open on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Dorchester County Parks
All Dorchester County Parks will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022. Park staff will assess any damages and provide updates for opening the park after the storm has passed. Please follow Dorchester County Parks Social Media for additional information.
Dorchester County Public Libraries
All Dorchester County Public Libraries will close at 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 29, 2022, and will remain closed on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Dorchester School District Two and Dorchester School District Four
Dorchester School District Two and Dorchester School District Four are moving to eLearning day procedures on Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30. 2022.
Dorchester County Career and Technology Center
The Dorchester County Career and Technology Center will be closed on Thursday, September 29, and Friday, September 30.
Dorchester County Animal Control
Dorchester County Animal Control is unable to respond to calls for service except for animal emergencies as Dorchester Paw’s Pet Support Service Department (intake office) will be closed Wednesday, September 28, through Saturday, October 1, 2022.
For animal emergencies, please contact the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
Dorchester County YMCA
The Dorchester County YMCA will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022.
Dorchester County Senior Centers
The Faith Sellers Senior Center and the David Sojourner Senior Center will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022.
