Police Responding to Multiple “Hoax” Active Shooter Calls at Schools Throughout the State
South Carolina police departments are this morning responding to multiple “hoax” active shooter calls at schools throughout the state.
Here’s the latest (last update: 9:22 am on 10/6/22):
Official believe the hoax stems from a TikTok challenge. As of 12:20 pm, officials said 13 schools across the state had received a false shots fired call.
- Beaufort High School
- Emergency services have been actively clearing the school since 9:30 am, and as of 10:27 am, first responders said they are continuing the evacuation
- Officials say that at this time, no victims have been located
- This has been determined to be a hoax
- Blythewood High School
- The Richland County Sheriff’s Department were on the scene after receiving a report that a gunshot was fired
- Officials have determined this was a hoax
- Brooklyn Springs Elementary
- This has been determined to be a hoax
- Burke High School
- Charleston Police Department responded after receiving a call about a possible active shooter. A different location made the call
- School went on lockdown
- Lockdown has been lifted
- There were no reported injuries or suspects located
- Police believe this is a hoax
- Central High School
- This has been determined to be a hoax
- Conway High School
- Police say they have checked the schools and have determined the call was a hoax
- Greenville High School
- Officials have determined this was a hoax
- Greenwood High School
- Officials have determined this was a hoax
- Hampton Elementary
- This has been determined to be a hoax
- Laurens High School
- Officials have determined this was a hoax
- Loris High School
- Police say they have checked the schools and have determined the call was a hoax
- Myrtle Beach High School
- Police say they have checked the schools and have determined the call was a hoax

- Officials have determined this was a hoax

A similar incident from Monday at Eau Claire High School in Columbia is also being investigated.
