SAVI Cucina + Wine Bar Expands Beverage Program
Mount Pleasant coastal Italian restaurant SAVI Cucina + Wine Bar has welcomed new Beverage Director Emerson Ewald, who joins Co-Owner Ty Raju + SAVI Society Wine Club Director Makayla Woodford to lead their talented beverage team.
Emerson began his wine career in New York City, and brings with him expertise from his six years as a certified sommelier at The Modern and lead sommelier at Veronika. He discovered his passion for wine during his undergraduate studies at the Culinary Institute of America, which included a semester of intensive wine and beverage courses at the school’s Napa Valley campus.
Working alongside Emerson as Wine Club Director and Floor Sommelier is Makayla Woodford, whose exposure to wine education began during her time as a server at SAVI Cucina. With encouragement from Co-Owner (and certified sommelier himself) Ty Raju, she was inspired to pursue her own sommelier certification. She now leads the ever popular “one size fits one” Savi Society Wine Club.
Emerson and Makayla will be adding even more exciting and varied wines to the restaurant’s wine list, and additional perks for Wine Club members including group tastings, private wine dinners and of course high-quality, limited wine selections. SAVI’s wine program has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence several years in a row, a trend that is sure to continue with this team leading the charge. They will both also lend their expertise to the beverage program and wine club at Sommba Cocina & Cellar, a coastal Spanish and Mediterranean concept coming to Mount Pleasant this fall from SAVI Co-Owners Ty Raju and Karen Mennuti-Raju.
SAVI Cucina + Wine Bar is located in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. They offer drink specials daily during their Aperitivo Hour, and discounted bottles every Wednesday night for “Wine Down Wednesdays.”
