Press Release

Beacon Community Bank, a privately held community bank founded in Charleston, officially opened the doors to its fourth branch this week. The new location, located at 1210 Ben Sawyer Boulevard in Sea Island Shopping Center, is the bank’s second branch to open in Mount Pleasant. The Ben Sawyer branch grand opening announcement comes just three months after Beacon officially broke ground in June on its new headquarters in North Mount Pleasant.

“Beacon Community Bank was founded on community, and we’re excited to become a part of the Old Mount Pleasant neighborhood,” said Brooks Melton, President & CEO of Beacon Community Bank. “As we continue to expand throughout the Charleston Tri-County area, our goal is to provide convenient access to community banking. This new branch offers both a convenient location for Mount Pleasant residents, as well as the ease of drive-thru banking.”

In addition to opening the newest location in Mount Pleasant, Beacon Community Bank also debuted plans to expand its footprint into North Charleston with the addition of a new branch near Tanger Outlets, planned to open in early 2023.

In January 2018, Beacon opened its first branch in Downtown Charleston on East Bay Street. A second branch followed in Mount Pleasant on Houston Northcutt Boulevard in May 2019. As part of the Bank’s five-year expansion strategy, the third branch opened on Daniel Island in April 2021. The new Ben Sawyer location marks the Bank’s fourth branch and is the first to offer the convenience of drive-thru banking. Beacon has plans to open its fifth branch location in North Charleston, as well as its new headquarters building in North Mount Pleasant, within the next year.

“Sea Island is an incredible location,” said Tommy B. Baker, Chairman of the Board of Beacon Community Bank. “We are all proud of the milestones we continue to reach as our small local bank welcomes new clients with each branch debut. Without question, the heart of our expansion is a direct result of our enthusiastic and professional banking team. These ladies and gentlemen are so dedicated, it’s inspiring to witness daily how they go above and beyond to ensure our clients’ expectations are exceeded.”

With 300 shareholders and a 19-member board of Charleston’s most distinguished leaders and business owners, Beacon was the first community bank to form in South Carolina in nearly a decade when it was founded in 2018.
