Press Release

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of its founding, The Charleston Museum announced the release of a special commemorative volume entitled The Charleston Museum: America’s First Museum

Authored by Director Carl P. Borick, with contributions from The Charleston Museum’s curatorial staff, the commemorative book features a full history of the Museum, extensive overviews of each of its collections, sections covering the Heyward-Washington House, Joseph Manigault House and the Dill Sanctuary, and beautiful photographs of nearly 100 of the treasured artifacts from the Museum’s impressive collections in archaeology, natural history, archived materials, decorative arts, weaponry, and historic textiles.

On Thursday, October 13th, The Charleston Museum invites members of the community to celebrate the official launch of The Charleston Museum: America’s First Museum. The evening will begin in the Museum’s Arthur M. Wilcox Auditorium with a curated presentation, followed by a brief Q&A segment and a reception. The event is free and open to the public; those interested in attending may register here.

The Charleston Museum: America’s First Museum will be available for purchase onsite, and Director Borick and other contributors will be on site during the event to sign them.
