Volunteers Needed: Going Places to Give 587 Custom Bikes to Kids in November
Local nonprofit Going Places will be the surprising 587 children that attend Dunston Elementary (448 kids) and Charleston Development Academy (elementary portion – 139 kids) with a new, custom bike, lock, helmet, and bike pump on November 14th and November 16th, respectively. However, they still need volunteers to help build the bikes, load the bikes onto the semi trucks, and to help at the bike reveals. See below for all volunteering details.
At the bike builds:
- 40 volunteers per 2hr time slot, may sign up for more than 1 time slot
- Please bring the listed tools if you have them (Going Places has some if you don’t, but is looking for donations of these supplies/tools as well)
- Folding table for you to build on
- 15mm combination wrench
- 14mm combination wrench
- 13mm combination wrench
- 6 mm Allen wrench
- 2 x 4in Philips screwdriver
At the bike reveals:
- 100 volunteers are needed to arrive early (see each bike reveal sign up for times) to help unload all bikes, locks, helmets, and bike pumps off of the semi trucks and set up the bikes under the big tarps for the surprise bike reveals
- This year EVERY CHILD in the whole school will get to ride a bike in 20-min increments as they come out class-by-class. Volunteers will help them ride their bikes. Any kids who don’t know how to ride or don’t want to ride can jump in a jump castle instead
- Going Places and volunteers will remain at the school until the end of the day as parents come and check-out their child’s bike
