Registration for STEM Saturday at Goose Creek Library Now Open
Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) in collaboration with the Coastal South Carolina Section Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) invites families with elementary-age students to participate in STEM Saturday on October 22, 2022 from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Goose Creek Library, located at 325 Old Moncks Corner Rd., Goose Creek.
Derik Leroi Pack, IEEE Member, will read a book from the Questioneers Series (questioneers.com) and discuss engineering principles utilizing the Little Pigs STEM Challenge. Free STEM home-use activity sources will also be shared with families. Pack will lead the students to design a house that will withstand the wolf’s blows (hair dryer) of destruction by using gumdrops, toothpicks and a paper plate to protect the pig. Supplies provided.
“Libraries provide a range of crucial services for our communities. As our IEEE section restarts our STEM efforts, we wanted to engage, support and grow where the community resides. Teaming with BCLS on STEM makes sense because we can add one more activity with the many great programs BCLS conducts. Our goal is to introduce elementary-age students to engineering and give parents IEEE STEM resources.” – Derik Leroi Pack, IEEE 2022 Section Chair
