Warrior Surf Foundation Founder Running NYC Marathon For Semper Fi & America’s Fund

U.S. Marine Veteran and Warrior Surf Foundation (WSF) Founder Andy Manzi is thrilled to be running this year’s TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6th.
Manzi will be representing Semper Fi & America’s Fund (The Fund), which cares for our nation’s critically wounded, ill and injured service members, Veterans and military families. Supporting all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, the organization provides one-on-one case management, connection and lifetime support.
Since its inception in 2003, The Fund has provided $290 million in support to over 29,000 service members, Veterans and military families.
“Semper Fi & America’s Fund provided financial support while I was in rehabilitation in a brain injury center for three months in 2016,” says Manzi. “The opportunity to focus on my healing and make progress to an overall better existence gave me the chance to continue my work with fellow Veterans in the ocean.”
Manzi, having founded WSF, will also be raising awareness for the Folly-Beach based nonprofit, which addresses post-service transition challenges such as PTSD, moral injury, survivor’s guilt and TBI through surf therapy, yoga, wellness sessions and community.
“This race, if taken seriously, will be difficult to train for,” continues Manzi. “This experience will require focus and dedication to ourselves and our purpose. The focus, dedication and training needed to excel in the NYC Marathon is also required by our Veterans to understand their personal experiences, and to heal and grow as individuals in their communities. I truly believe we should do what we can, when we can, because we can.”
Sally Seuffert, a WSF supporter, will also be running alongside Manzi representing The Fund and raising awareness for WSF. Her brother is a marine.
“This joint effort displays our deep belief that it takes a village to serve our country’s Veterans and that no one organization can do it all,” says WSF Executive Director Stephanie Dasher.
WSF will be hosting an event at The Washout on November 5th from 5 pm to 9 pm to support both runners. More information on this pre-race event can be found here.
