Lowcountry Artists Gallery presents Seldom Scene, an exhibit running for the month of November. It will include new oil paintings by Norma Morris Cable and wood sculptures by Stephen Vadakin. An opening reception will be held on Friday, November 4th from 5 pm to 8 pm at the gallery.
Admission to the opening reception is free and all are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.
Cable’s subjects include birds and wildlife that make their home in the Lowcountry, but are not often spotted, such as the painted bunting, sea turtles, and a tailing redfish in the marsh.
Born in Charleston and raised on Sullivan’s Island, Cable is thoroughly immersed and respectful of the culture of the Carolina Lowcountry. She delights in capturing unique subjects in the Carolina Lowcountry and worldwide. She credits Virginia Fouche Bolton, her dedicated high school art teacher, for igniting the spark. As praise and thanks to our Creator, the greatest painter of all, the cross is integral to her signature. Studies at the College of Charleston and workshops across the country have all contributed to her awakening. She served the Charleston Artist Guild as President, board member in many capacities, and currently organizes summer camp workshops for children of Pattison’s Academy.
Vadakin is a renowned sculptor of marine mammals including dolphin and whales. He is also a writer and wildlife artist who creates sculptures utilizing the mediums of wood and bronze. He works in native and exotic woods from all over the world. His sculptures are sanded to perfection and finished with the highest quality materials. Vadakin is also the founder of a marine science program from school children in the Midwest. To date, the program has reached more than 50,000 young people with an engaging message about the art of sculpture as it relates to oceans and marine life. Vadakin’s collections have been featured at the Centre of Coastal Studies on Cape Cod, the South Carolina Maritime Museum, and Wyland’s Galleries in Naples Florida and Hilton Head, SC.
