Iron Rose, A “Southern Coastal Restaurant” is Now Open at The Mills House

The Mills House’s new signature restaurant, Iron Rose, is officially open to the public with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch service. Led by food and beverage director Gary Mennie, Iron Rose will offer what the team says is “a clean, elevated take on Southern coastal cuisine inspired by the bounty of the Southeast’s farms and waters.”
Iron Rose, which is tucked inside the secluded, walled garden courtyard at The Mills House, will offer guests shareable bites, vegetable-forward plates, and a selection of entrées highlighting locally sourced ingredients. The beverage program features local craft beers, wines by the glass and bottle, and cocktails. Iron Rose offers both indoor and courtyard dining, in addition to seating at the bar.
Some notable dishes are the tuna tartare, which is made with benne crackers, pistachio, curry essence, and pomegranate; the Autumn Panzanella, with squash, pears, beets, radicchio, pumpernickel and white balsamic; and the Local Market Fish, with roasted sunchokes, hen of the woods mushrooms, mustard greens, and salsa verde.

Their hours are as follows:
- Breakfast, Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 10:30 am
- Brunch, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm
- Lunch, Monday through Friday from noon to 5 pm
- Dinner, Sunday through Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm
- Bar Open until 11 pm
- Weekend Dinner, Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm
- Bar Open until 1 am

The name Iron Rose pays homage to iconic Charleston symbols, including the Noisette rose and the city’s rich tradition of ironwork. The Noisette rose is an heirloom variety in the South, originally bred by a Charleston nurseryman in the early 1800s. The flower can often be found in private gardens throughout the city, many enclosed by the ornate, wrought iron gates produced by generations of skilled Charleston artisans and blacksmiths.
