Press Release

Toby the Turtle is making history this year with his very first Spooktacular Litter Sweep on Sunday, October 30th. Grab your best Halloween costume and help Toby #KeepFollyClean from 1 pm to 3 pm in style. After the sweep, participants will enjoy special discounts from select Folly restaurants and bars throughout the island. They can also bring the Country Salt Apparel-sponsored event wristband home to grow a beautiful new surprise plant.

Hosted by the Folly Beach Civic Club and the South Carolina Aquarium, and organized by the Folly Association of Businesses’ Litter Committee, this wicked litter sweep will be a fang-tastic way to help Toby take care of his beautiful island. Volunteers can sign up for a preferred station here where they will sweep the island and collect data for the South Carolina Litter-Free Data Journal. This data is very important to collect as it helps the island apply for grants and determine solutions for minimizing litter on Folly Beach. Everyone near and far is welcome and encouraged to join as we clean up our beautiful island. Supplies will be provided by South Carolina Aquarium, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please be sure to bring a reusable water bottle as single-use plastic water bottles will not be provided.

Post-sweep treats can be found at many local Folly Beach restaurants and bars including The Bounty Bar, Folly Beach Crab Shack, Drop In, Loggerhead’s, The Washout, Planet Follywood, Rita’s Seaside Grille, Sunset Cay Shipstore, and the Folly Beach Taco Boy location. Discounts are only offered to participants with a special wristband received after all of the litter and data have been turned in at the stations. Take a peek at what each location is offering here.

Continue the fun at home after the sweep with your special wristband sponsored by Country Salt Apparel. Plant it in a pot of dirt and care for it like a seed. The paper will compost away and the seeds will grow into beautiful flowers, herbs, or vegetables with zero waste left behind. To learn more on how to plant your wristband, please visit BotanicalPaperworks.com.
