Keep Dorchester County Beautiful Program Removes 155,225 lbs. of Litter since 2019
Dorchester County, in partnership with Keep South Carolina Beautiful and PalmettoPride, have worked together for over three years picking up litter in Dorchester County. Since then, the Dorchester County litter crews have removed 155,225 lbs. of litter from 325 miles of roads.
In 2019, Dorchester County Public Works (DCPW) / Solid Waste Department and Keep Dorchester County Beautiful were awarded grants from PalmettoPride for litter pickup throughout the County. Since then, the county has matched the grant to expand the litter cleanup program and ensure this initiative could continue throughout the year.
“We attribute the success of the Keep Dorchester County Beautiful program to our partnerships with these organizations and the hard work of our litter cleanup crew. Just this year, our crews have collected over 98,825 lbs. of litter from 207 miles of roads. When the public sees the bright green PalmettoPride bags along Dorchester County roads, we hope that they recognize our litter cleanup program and our goal of creating a sustainable, beautiful, and economically thriving community,” said Dorchester County Solid Waste Manager Charles Shutt.
